Sardjito Hospital Response, Ministry of Health Admits Difficult to Catch Case Rate

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Ministry of Health Vote after being asked to take responsibility for the deaths of dozens of patients Covid-19 at RSUP Dr. Sardjito, Yogyakarta by Deputy Chairperson of Commission IX of the DPR Melki Laka Lena. The patient died from lack of oxygen.

Director of Communicable Disease Prevention and Control at the Ministry of Health, Siti Nadia Tarmizi, said that currently the government is having difficulty keeping up with the rate of transmission of Covid-19. As a result, the existing medical oxygen stock is not sufficient.

“Indeed, the current conditions are not good and we continue to try to improve these conditions. Indeed, it is difficult for us to catch up with the rate of transmission and the increase in cases which is increasing exponentially,” he told CNNIndonesia.com, Monday (5/7).

Even so, Nadia said the Ministry of Health had made a number of efforts to ensure the supply of medical oxygen was maintained.

In each province a special task force has been formed to maintain oxygen supply. The special task force consists of the Department of Industry, the Department of Health, producers and distributors of oxygen.

Then, he said that there had been an additional daily supply of oxygen on the island of Java to add additional supplies from PT Krakatau Steel, PT Petrogas and PT Pusri.

“Increasing the availability of oxygen cylinders by opening the faucet to import oxygen cylinders up to 50 thousand oxygen cylinders,” said Nadia.

Previously, 63 Covid-19 patients at the Sardjito Hospital in Yogyakarta died in one night, namely July 3-4. Some of them died from lack of oxygen, while the hospital had run out of stock.

The DIY DPRD said that all the patients who died, or 63 people, died due to running out of oxygen. However, the hospital denied this. There are 33 patients who have been supplied with oxygen, but cannot be helped because their condition is already severe.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of Commission IX of the DPR, Melki Laka Lena, asked the Ministry of Health to be responsible for the delay in oxygen supply. The reason is, RSUP Dr. Sardjito has sent a letter of request on Saturday (3/7).
