Stevie Wonder attacks Trump on his vision of racism

UNITED STATES – This has the merit of being clear. Music icon Stevie Wonder has published a five-minute video on social media in which he delivers a striking monologue against racism.

The interpreter of “Superstition” denounces systemic racism, police brutality and the “economic repression of blacks and browns” in the United States and urged people to “do more than talk – move your feet to the polls and use your hands to vote. ”

In this video entitled “The universe is watching us”, Stevie Wonder, 70, never mentions the name of Donald Trump. But the reference to the “commander-in-chief” leaves little room for doubt, as our colleagues in the HuffPost American.

The musician first recalled some of the president’s controversial statements, such as calling anti-racism protesters “thugs” and describing Haiti and the African nations like “shithole” (shitty country).

“You know, it’s a sad day when I see better than your 20/20 vision,” he added, referring to the fact that he has been blind since early childhood. As recalled The HuffPost Before the 2016 election, Stevie Wonder said that voting for Trump to rule the country would be like asking him, blind, to drive a car.

“The appalling silence of some is deafening”

He then warned: “One day you bite your fingers. Because actions speak louder than words, and the appalling silence of some is deafening ”. Referring to movement “Black Live Matter”, he also added:

“Black lives matter, and it’s not another trend, a moment, or a digital, viral hashtag. It must be the beginning of the end of all this mess. These are our lives, literally. Yes, all lives count. But they only count when the lives of blacks also count ”.

This before concluding: “The universe is watching us. Forget about a hundred, a thousand years from now. What will we have done at this time next year? I’m talking about you. I’m speaking about me. I’m talking about everyone. Let’s do something. Let’s make a difference ”.
