Angeliño felt that he was after his period with PSV was ready for the big job Manchester City, but trainer Pep Guardiola did not give the Spaniard the confidence he needed. Angeliño left for RB Leipzig, where he does get the confidence of Julian Nagelsmann.
Angeliño is one of the big stars at Leipzig and has already scored five goals this season. City was open to a rental period of the Spanish left back, while it is itself tight in terms of players in that position. Angeliño is happy to be active in Germany this season. “It’s a matter of trust,” he begins in conversation AS Journal. “Before my time in the Netherlands I was not ready to play for City, but after my period at PSV I knew I was ready. I need determination.”
Guardiola could not offer him that certainty at City. Angeliño did occasionally play for The Citizens, but never started a long series of matches. “I don’t know what it was”, the left back continues. “Something was missing. Then I came to Leipzig and from day one Julian let me play almost everything, I am very happy with that.”
Angeliño is very enthusiastic about the Leipzig trainer and sees similarities between him and Guardiola. “In terms of preparation, training and they both know what they want. I think they are 95 percent the same,” Angeliño concludes.
