Thomas Neusiedler, CEO of Helvetia Insurance and Alexander Zeh, Regional Director of New Business at IPSOS, deal with the topic of “pension provision” in the new “Peter & Paul” program Whither goest thou?”

Helvetia Insurance recently conducted a study on the topic of “generations” (LEADERSNET reported). More than 1,500 interviews were conducted – a number that underlines the scientific significance of the study. Thomas Neusiedler, Board Member of Helvetia Insurance and Alexander Zeh, Regional Director New Business at IPSOS, spoke to Opinion Leaders Network CEO Paul Leitenmüller in the new Ariana event location about their results.

“Getting to know your wishes and fears”

“If you focus on people, then of course you also have to know what people want. The idea was to get to know the different generations and their wishes and fears,” says Thomas Neusiedler about the background to the study.

This was carried out by IPSOS market research. Its Regional Director New Business, Alexander Zeh, comments on the motives of the study as follows: “We discovered together that never before have so many different generations been on the market at the same time.”

An important point was of course the topic of pensions: Are people concerned with this topic? “Austrians have more short-term thoughts. At the moment the issues are very much about inflation and affordable housing. If you ask them what they want, health comes first, but then very, very quickly financial security. And that’s it Of course, it also automatically involves the topic of pensions.”

Private pension provision in focus

Private pension provision has now reached large parts of the population. Things were different in the 80s and 90s.

“What we are finding is that younger people are now engaging more actively with the topic of precaution,” Neusiedler comments on the study. “This is partly because state provision is in crisis.” However, the Baby Boomer generation is still convinced that “it will work out for one another”. This trust would decrease with age. Another finding of the study is that women are more concerned about their financial security in old age.

Cross-generational work

One finding of the study may come as a surprise to some people: Austrians see cross-generational work as an important and valuable factor.

For the Peter & Paul section “The Thing of the Week,” the guests brought their personal “favorite thing” to the set. For new settlers this is a wooden casket. “One or two people, especially my wife, will probably laugh their heads off now,” explains the board of Helvetia Insurance. The reason is simple: “I just can’t go past wooden boxes like this when I’m on vacation. For me, it’s a combination of tradition and modernity.”

Alexander Zeh brings a headlamp into the studio. “I really enjoy being out in nature,” says Zeh. “And so that I don’t lose my way in the dark, I always take this headlamp with me – even on business trips where I don’t actually get into nature at all.”
