FC St. Gallen “strongly condemns” the racist insults against Zurich striker Aiyegun Tosin after scoring 2-0 on Thursday in St. Gallen.
The leader of the Super League reacted on Saturday afternoon with a press release. “FC St. Gallen is shocked and angry and clearly states that we do not tolerate racism at all. (…) As soon as the identity of the person responsible is clearly established, we will impose the most severe sentence possible, “said president Matthias Hüppi in the press release, adding that his club will file a criminal complaint with the municipal police.
“We apologize flatly to Aiyegun Tosin and FC Zurich. Racism has no place anywhere, not FC St. Gallen either,” said Matthias Hüppi, referring to facts that occurred in the 64th minute of a lost 4-0 encounter by St. Gallen. As the “Embroiderers” concede on their website, we clearly hear the racist insults uttered by a St. Welsh fan on a video circulating on YouTube.
