Free lessons for adolescents (grades 5-7) on hand hygiene:

Adherence to hand hygiene is an important preventive measure for the prevention of several infectious diseases. It is important to learn the culture of proper hand washing as early as childhood, because it is the health habits acquired in childhood and adolescence that are maintained throughout life. Understanding and skills in hand hygiene should start in the family and continue in education. It is important for children and adolescents not only to explain when to wash their hands in a engaging way, but also to teach proper hand washing techniques.

In the last four years, the SPKC has implemented a total of more than 1,000 lessons for five- to eight-year-olds (educating a total of about 17,000 participants) on personal hygiene, including explaining the importance of hand washing in disease prevention. This year, for the first time, such classes will be organized for teenagers. It is planned to implement 371 educational events throughout Latvia, in which more than 5,000 teenagers will participate. The duration of one event will be 40 minutes.

The significance of hand washing in everyday life, the consequences of non-observance of hand hygiene, as well as the correct hand washing technique will be explained to teenagers in an engaging, easy-to-understand and interactive way. All participants of the event will be given an informative material about the importance of hand washing “Your health in your hands!”, But teachers – methodological material for work with 5-7. classes on hand hygiene.

More information about the events can be obtained, as well as you can apply for them by writing [email protected] or by calling the project manager Andris Čekster, phone number 20006250. The events can also be implemented in camps, interest education institutions, day centers, etc.

Free breast health classes and proper self-assessment for girls aged 14 to 18 (grades 8-12):

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed malignancy in women in the world. In Latvia, too, breast cancer is the most frequently registered malignancy and the most common cause of death in the group of malignancies in women. Awareness of the importance of breast health and breast self-examination as part of self-care should be promoted in order to promote early detection of breast cancer and reduce mortality.

Since 2017, SPKC has organized 104 classes, in which a total of 1,500 10-12. class girls. This year, the classes are expanded to include 8th and 9th grade girls.

The program has been developed in collaboration with a gynecologist. The events will use interesting and engaging methods for students to learn the topic: video situation analysis, discussions, practical skills for breast self-examination on a special mulch, etc. It will be possible to learn about breast health, proper self-examination and its risks ask questions and get answers from the event manager (gynecologist or midwife). The duration of one lesson is 40 minutes, no more than 30 participants participate in one lesson. Informative materials will be distributed to the participants during the classes.

More information about the events can be obtained, as well as you can apply for them by contacting the project coordinator Undīne Piterniece, phone number 27627247, e-mail: [email protected] The events can also be implemented in camps, interest education institutions, day centers, etc.
