Spend a day in New York without leaving your sofa

With the situation we are going through, we are very much anxious to step outside and explore the world. Thanks to remote experiences, it is possible: they transport us to the other side of the planet, to the heart of unknown landscapes and sounds.

Together we have traveled the great outdoors, from African savannas to the depths of the oceans. We have revised our history and art classes thanks to most beautiful museums in the world. Finally, we have witnessed legendary shows in the front row. And all this, from home.

And it’s not over ! Today, why not explore a legendary city from the comfort of your sofa? New York, its trendy neighborhoods, its mythical delis, its shows that the whole world is snapping up and its immense parks… Does this universe make you dream? Try a virtual dive in the city!

Morning

To start the day off right, nothing better than a typical New York breakfast. For that, you will be hard pressed to find better than the sandwiches of Katz’s Delicatessen, a real local institution. The establishment even offers deliveries. Our advice: order an “omelet breakfast” and a sandwich that you can nibble on at noon (the pastrami is a must!). Can’t get it delivered? Try to reproduce the tasty recipes of Katz’s at home, drawing inspiration from the photos and videos posted on their social networks. Enjoy your meal !

With breakfast over, it’s time to explore another symbol of New York: Central Park.

If you don’t have the luxury of being able to stretch your legs in this vast park in the heart of the city, we have the solution. Take out your laptop or tablet, choose upbeat music and climb on a treadmill (or jog on the spot): let’s go for a ride in the southern section of the park! Run alongside your new friends on YouTube, while admiring the beauty of Central Park and its spring colors.

Afternoon

New York is full of galleries and museums, and some of them offer their collections online.

This is the case of the famous MoMA, the city’s museum of modern art, which allows you to virtually admire its selection of the moment (more than 86,000 works, all the same). Paintings, photographs, sculptures… Take all the time you need to discover this immense virtual exhibition.

Modest but very famous, the David Zwirner gallery specializes in contemporary art. No need to be there to enjoy it: slip into one of the virtual screening rooms from the gallery to admire his works for yourself.

Back in the open, head for the New York High Line! Loved by all New Yorkers, this walk will take you high. Stroll along this former railway line, transformed into an urban oasis to link Hudson Yards to West Village.

If you haven’t already gobbled up your pastrami sandwich from Katz’s Deli, now is the time! Treat yourself to the view that awaits you on the virtual High Line. Have you cracked? Did the sandwich disappear with the breakfast? Do not panic. The Chelsea Market, a foodie’s paradise, offers recipes online to help you prepare a delicious New York style lunch in your own kitchen.

Early evening

When the city gradually plunges into darkness, it’s the opera’s turn to shine! Attend a performance of Metropolitan Opera, available to stream for free on the Met’s website or its app, Met Opera On Demand. For a total immersion, get out of the game and put on your best evening dress. Tonight, art comes to your home!

If you’re not into opera, take a look around Broadway instead. The Broadway HD service offers a 7 day free trial to discover its subscription streaming service. Great classics, contemporary shows… the world of Broadway awaits you.

The evening continues

Leave Broadway for Times Square, a short walk away. By night, explore this lively place for a new virtual walk. Forget your living room for a moment, turn up the volume and let yourself be seduced by the effervescence of the neighborhood.

It’s almost time to relax in front of a good late night show, these typically American entertainment programs broadcast in the second part of the evening. Even though Jimmy Fallon’s Tonight Show has closed at Rockefeller Plaza, that hasn’t stopped the famous host and comedian from continuing to shoot episodes from home. Take out the popcorn, get comfortable on your sofa and enjoy the show!
