"Cascade radars" in Spain: Installed a mobile cinemometer
In neighboring Spain, speed cameras are being tested that detect who brakes and then accelerates, when passing by a speed camera.
The system in Spain is known as "cascade radars" and consists of placing a mobile cinemometer (mobile radar) after the fixed radar to detect the speed of offenders. Whenever a driver tries to "cheat" the fixed camera, the mobile camera will try to register the speed and then issue a fine to the offender.
The matter is not new and the Spanish authorities are already testing the system. The new radars can fine drivers for “braking” and not, exactly, for “speeding”.
The mobile radars that are being tested in Spain have a margin of error of 7 km/h on roads whose maximum speed is less than 100 km/h. Therefore, the radar will register a violation from 58 km/h, in a zone limited to 50 km/h. If the maximum speed exceeds 100 km/h, a margin of 7% will be applied. Thus, all cars that travel at more than 117.7 km/h, on a road with a limit of 110 km/h, will also receive the respective fine.
Lawyer Rémy Josseaume, an expert in automobile law, told The Connexion that he thought it unlikely that the new cameras, unlike in Spain, would be introduced in some countries, for example France. “How to write a law to prevent someone from breaking the law?
