SpaceX may no longer be able to pay for satellite connection to Ukraine | Tech

The space company SpaceX has asked the Pentagon to pay the costs of Starlink Internet terminals in Ukraine. Elon Musk’s company says it can no longer afford the expenses, he reports CNN.

So far, around 20,000 Starlink terminals have been delivered to Ukraine. A satellite connection can be used to communicate when mobile phone networks and internet connections go down due to the invasion of Russia.

Last week, Musk tweeted that the SpaceX operation already has $ 80 million cost. The amount is expected to exceed $ 100 million by the end of the year.

CNN contains a letter that SpaceX sent to the Pentagon last month. In it, the company claims that it can no longer finance the operation.

In the letter, SpaceX also asked the Pentagon to finance the use of Starlink by the Ukrainian government and military. According to Musk’s company, the cost is $ 120 million for the rest of the year. It could reach $ 400 million over the next 12 months.

“We are unable to continue donating terminals to Ukraine or fund existing terminals indefinitely,” a SpaceX executive said in the letter.
