A big fright for the ISS crew. Russia orchestrated an anti-satellite missile (Asat) fire that spawned a cloud of space debris not far from the International Space Station, AFP said.

Florence Parly, Minister of the Armed Forces posted a message on Twitter, describing Russia as “space wreckers”, considering space as a “common good”.

The Russians have confirmed having fired one of their inactive satellites: Tselina-D in orbit since 1984.

An event that worries France and the United States, who fear having to face an arms race to continue to navigate in space.

According to Sergei Lavrov, the Russian foreign minister, the United States “is ignoring the proposals of Russia and China for an international agreement to prevent an arms race in space”. The United States is indeed also equipped with such armed devices.
