South Ossetia intends to take steps to join Russia in the near future. This was stated by the President of the partially recognized republic Anatoly Bibilov, as his statement was published in the channel of the party “United Russia” in the Telegram.
“I believe that unification with Russia is our strategic goal. Our path. The aspiration of our people. And we will continue on this path. In the near future we will take the appropriate legal steps,” Bibilov said.
According to the president, South Ossetia, Russia and the whole world are currently experiencing a turning point.
“The Russian world today defends the interests of those who are devoted to it, who oppose Nazism, respect universal human values and fundamental rights and norms accepted by the entire international community,” Bibilov explained.
South Ossetia is a historical and geographical region in northern Georgia, a former autonomous region under Soviet rule that declared itself an independent republic. Its population is 53,532 people.
