South Ossetia to hold a referendum on Russia’s accession abroad in the summer – News – TVNET

In the referendum, its participants will have to answer the question: “Do you support the unification of the Republic of South Ossetia and Russia?”

Bibilov has signed an order for a referendum “following the efforts of the people of the Republic of South Ossetia to unite with Russia,” reads Bibilov’s website.

“Today, the Central Election Commission unanimously supported the initiative for South Ossetia to join Russia. The documents have been handed over to the court. We are waiting for the court’s decision, and our high hopes will be fulfilled very soon,” Bibilov wrote on his Telegram channel.

In the second round of the South Ossetian presidential election on May 8, Bibilov lost to opposition candidate Nihas leader Alan Gagloev.

The elections took place at a time when the sending of the people of the region to Ukraine on the Russian side was provoking an ambiguous reaction in South Ossetian society.

At least seven South Ossetians have died there. At the end of March, news appeared that at least 300 soldiers had returned to South Ossetia.
