South Korean Jooyeon Ka Wins 65th Jaén Prize Piano Competition with Stunning Performance

The Infanta Leonor Theater in Jaén has filled its seats to delight in front of the finalist musicians of the Jaén Prize Piano organized by the Provincial Council. The young pianist South Korean Jooyeon Ka has won the 65th edition, thanks to her interpretation of the concerto for piano and orchestra no. 2 in F minor Op. 21, by Chopin. The performance of this performer has been, in the opinion of the jury chaired for yet another year by the Barcelona pianist Albert Attenelle, the best of those performed by the three young musicians who have competed in this final, in which they have been accompanied by the Philharmonic Orchestra of Málaga, directed this year by Salvador Vázquez.

The first prize of the contest is endowed with 20.000 euros provided by the provincial Administration, in addition to the Gold Medal and diploma, the recording and editing an album with the prestigious Naxos label and a five-concert tour. The third vice president of the Provincial Council and deputy for Culture and Sports, África Colomo, has been in charge of granting this award.

With this recognition, Jooyeon Ka becomes the third South Korean musician to inscribe his name in the list of winners of this competition, thus succeeding his compatriot Jinhyung Park, who won last year, in the list of winners. In this way, this performer born in 1995 adds this important distinction to her resume, which until now included other international recognitions such as those she obtained at the Henle Piano Competition, New York International Piano Competition or Troisdorf International Piano Competition (Germany), among others.

The third prize, valued at 8.000 euros and sponsored by the Unicaja Jaén Foundation, has gone to the Chinese Deren Wang, who has performed the concerto for piano and orchestra no. 2 in C minor Op. 18 by Rachmaninov.
