The cabinet follows suit with the advice of the Outbreak Management Team (OMT).

In recent weeks, entire classes were sent home if an infection was detected. This caused headaches for parents who thought they could finally go back to the office.

OMT member and pediatrician Karoly Illy, was outspoken in favor of the relaxation because quarantine is not good for children. “We see that children come into their own when they receive physical education. Over the past year and a half, we have seen the learning backlog increase and when schools have to keep closing their doors, this creates unworkable situations.”

After the corona consultation with his cabinet colleagues, outgoing minister Arie Slob (Education) showed that he was ‘a satisfied person’.

More children infected

In the meantime, the RIVM reports that more and more infections are being identified in children. The school or daycare is often the place where they contracted the infections. In the past seven days, 1,872 children ages 5 to 9 tested positive. That is the highest number since the weekly figures of May 4, so more than four months ago.
