These countries have the best and worst roads in Europe | Car

The Netherlands has the best roads in all of Europe. This is evident from figures from the World Economic Forum, mapped by Landgeist.com. On a scale of 1 to 7, the Netherlands scores a 6.4. Only one country comes close.

It is not about how dangerous the roads are and whether there are many or few traffic jams, but purely about the road surface itself. Belgium only scores a 4.4, a clear difference. Switzerland is in second place with a 6.3 and Portugal and Austria are together in third place with a 6.0.

For the worst roads in Europe you have to go to the former Eastern Bloc. According to the survey, you will find the worst roads in Moldova, rated with a 2.6. Bosnia-Herzegovina follows with a 2.8 and also in Romania and Ukraine (both a score of 3) the quality of the roads is bad.

If you want to stay a little closer to home and still put your shock absorbers to the test, it’s best to go to the Czech Republic (3.9). Striking scores are, among others, for Turkey (5) and Croatia (5.6), countries that recently economically lagged considerably behind Western Europe and that nevertheless have better roads than many Western European countries. It is also striking that Norway has a relatively bad score with a 4.5, while that country is seen as innovative in the field of electric driving, for example.
