KOMPAS.com – Sony officially introduced its newest flagship phone, namely Sony Xperia 1 IV or read Sony Xperia One Mark Four. This phone is the successor of the Sony Xperia 1 III which was released in April 2021.
As the newest model, Sony Xperia 1 IV brings a number of improvements, especially in the aspect of the telephoto camera on the back.
Now, the Sony Xperia 1 IV is equipped with a 12 MP telephoto camera with a variable zoom lens with a range of 85mm (f/2.3, 3.5x optical zoom) to 125mm (f/2.8. 5.2x optical zoom).
Previously, the Sony Xperia 1 III was only equipped with a 12 MP telephoto camera with a variable zoom lens with a range of 70mm (equivalent, full frame, f/2.4, 3x optical zoom) to 105mm (full frame equivalent, f/2.8. 4.4x optical zoom). .

Not only is the range getting bigger, the telephoto camera on the Sony Xperia 1 IV also now includes the “continuos optical zoom 85-125mm” technology.
This technology is said to be the first to be embedded in a smartphone.
The camera lens on a smartphone itself usually only has one focal length (fixed), including the telephoto range. For example, there are cell phones that have two telephoto lenses, 70mm and 240mm.
The photos at 70mm and 240mm will look good because they are at the native optical zoom point of both lenses. However, the photos between the two points will look less good or like cropped photos, because the zoom is done digitally.
Well, the Telephoto Lens Continuous Optical Zoom 85-125mm from Sony is said to be able to continuously zoom (optical zoom) from 85mm to 125mm, without the help of digital zoom.

The optical zoom mechanism is similar to the variable zoom lenses commonly found in DSLR and mirrorless cameras, namely by moving the lens elements back and forth to change the focal length.
The three rear cameras are equipped with Optical SteadyShot, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) made by Sony.
Then, all Xperia 1 IV rear cameras are also equipped with Real-time Eye Autofocus (AF), Real-time tracking capabilities from Sony, and the ability to record 4K resolution videos up to 120 fps.
