Sony will close PlayStation Store on PS3, PS Vita and PSP / CD-Action

Have been confirmed previous rumors. Sony will indeed close PlayStation Store on older consoles – PS3, PS Vita and PSP. The Japanese giant sent a special message to store users. Its content is as follows:

July 2, 2021 we are closing PlayStation Store on PlayStation 3 devices, a August 27, 2021 on PlayStation Vita devices. Additionally, the remaining purchasing functionality for PSP (PlayStation Portable) will also be terminated – July 2, 2021 r. After a thorough analysis of the situation, we decided to make these changes to transfer all resources to PlayStation Store for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and thus further improve the quality of services. Thank you for supporting these platforms for many years.

What does this mean for you? You will not be able to purchase digital content for PS3, PS Vita and PSP, including games and video items. You will not be able to make purchases in PS3, PS Vita and PSP games. Although the PSP store has already closed in 2016, the remaining PSP shopping functionality (e.g. in-game purchases) will eventually be terminated.

What about the content I already have?

  • You will still be able to download the content you own on PS3, PS Vita and PSP, including games and video items.
  • You can download the items you own to a PS3, PS Vita or PSP by going to the download list on the appropriate device.
  • If you have purchased a PS3 / PS Vita common package and only downloaded the PS3 version or only the PS Vita version, you will need to download the second version before closing PlayStation Store on the respective device.
  • You will be able to stream your video items to a PS3, PS4 or PS5 via the My Videos app or on mobile devices via the PlayStation Video app.
  • You will still be able to re-download and play titles received via PlayStation Plus as long as you remain a member of the service.

What about coupons, wallet funds and Cross-buy content?

  • You will still be able to redeem game coupons and PlayStation Plus coupons on PS3, PS Vita and PSP devices, even when PlayStation Store purchases functionality on these devices is disabled.
  • However, you will not be able to redeem PSN wallet vouchers (e.g. gift cards) on PS3, PS Vita and PSP devices after the PlayStation Store purchases functionality on those devices is disabled.
  • Your PSN wallet funds will remain in your PSN account, but can only be used to purchase PS4 and PS5 products via the PlayStation Store on the web, PlayStation App, or on PS4 and PS5 consoles.
  • You will still be able to purchase Cross-buy content via the PlayStation Store on the web, PlayStation App, or on PS4 and PS5. This way you will be able to access the PS4 and PS3 / PS Vita / PSP versions.
