Sony may add advertising to its free games

After reporting that Microsoft is considering introducing the possibility for free games to feature advertising, Business Insider says that PlayStation is investigating the same possibility.

The plan is to allow free-to-play game creators to have an extra source of revenue and Sony has not yet decided whether to charge part of the money earned from advertising, as mentioned in the Microsoft case.

The rumor says that Sony is already testing the program that will allow this and that even in 2022 we may have the first examples.

The objective is to present the advertisements as if they were part of the game. The example is advertising on billboards in stadiums or on city streets in sports or driving games.

In cases where the game format allows, the player may even be invited to see advertisements in exchange for rewards.
