“Somehow strange”. Bayern coach Nagelsmann hands out against Barça after Lewandowski change.

Julian Nagelsmann is surprised at the many arrivals at FC Barcelona.

Despite a horrendous mountain of debt, FC Barcelona is not holding back when it comes to transfers. But on the contrary. Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann cannot understand this and wonders where Barça suddenly got all the money from.

In the winter, Ferran Torres came for 55 million euros, now Raphinha for the same sum and Robert Lewandowski for 50 million. In addition, Barça signed three other top players in the last few weeks and months, Andreas Christensen, Franck Kessié and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (in winter) – free of charge, but of course they were also given lucrative contracts.

Only eleven months ago it became known that FC Barcelona had accumulated a huge mountain of debt. There was talk of 1.35 billion euros. The seriousness of the situation became clear at the latest when the club was no longer able to provide club icon Lionel Messi with a contract last summer, although the six-time world footballer was willing to forego a lot of salary.

All snow from yesterday. Now Barça is throwing money around again. 50 million euros will be paid for the soon to be 34-year-old Lewandowski, who will be given a four-year contract with an annual salary of 9 million euros.

Big question marks at Nagelsmann

How is that possible? Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann is also wondering. “It’s not just Lewy, they buy a lot of players – I don’t know how,” Nagelsmann marvels at the many (expensive) newcomers from the Catalans.

“Barça is the only club in the world that has no money but buys any player they want. It’s kind of weird, kind of crazy,” continued the Bayern coach. Somehow solutions would be found, but he couldn’t really explain it, says Nagelsmann.

Meanwhile, Barcelona already have the next player on the line: Sevilla defender Jules Koundé is also expected to come. Cost: a mere 65 million euros.
