Slack hikes its prices and revamps its free template

On September 1, Slack will make changes, both for its paid formula and for its free model.

Launched in 2014 and acquired by Salesforce in 2020, the professional messaging application Slack will soon experience serious changes. These will concern both free users and subscribers, who will see their bill change for the very first time. Certainly serious modifications which could well relaunch the duel between Slack and Microsoft Teams in particular.

Slack evolves into a free version

On September 1, Slack will therefore first modify the limits of its free format. Say goodbye to the 10,000 message and 5 GB storage limit for content sent to these servers. Instead, only a limit on displaying trades posted within the last 90 days will be enforced.

Convenient for not wondering when the old limit will be reached, but less for consulting a message that is more than three months old. For this, it will be necessary to switch to a paid formula. According to Slack: “ The majority of our free teams will have access to more of their message history with the new 90-day limit compared to the previous limit. This remains to be seen in practice.

Additionally, free users will be able to enjoy the Clips feature. This allows, as its name suggests, to send clips audio and video in private messages or in the channels. Finally, it will now be possible to set a retention period for messages and files. Slack makes it clear that any deletion of content is final.

The Pro package inflates its prices

Also on September 1, “ So that we can continue to deliver innovations that delight our customers and help their businesses thrive “, the prices of the Pro package will increase. It will thus be a question of 8.25 euros per month instead of 7.50 euros per month (or 6.75 euros per month by subscribing for one year, instead of 6.25 euros per month).

Slack urges users to renew or upgrade to annual throughput now, before the price increase, to continue enjoying the current rate for a few more months.
