Society – Freiburg im Breisgau – Expert on mask grouches: Don’t want to change habits – Society

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Humans are creatures of habit – this is also evident in the mask requirement: “The difficult thing is to change our everyday practices. Integrating something new always causes a lot of effort and protests against it quickly become loud.” , so the Freiburg sociology professor Stefan Kaufmann on Thursday in an SWR interview. “If you listen to individual interviews of mask refusers, the talk is that you don’t want to be” enslaved “,” said Baumann. “And that shows that some people do not want to change their habits at all.”

It would take a while for a society to permanently adapt to such habits, said the university professor. From his point of view, you can address people calmly if they don’t wear a mask: In that case, however, you should be as friendly as possible, not speak authoritatively and not act in a know-it-all way.

At the same time, the sociologist restricted: “If someone is deliberately and challengingly not wearing a mask, one should be careful with hints.” Conflicts should be avoided in such cases, because there is no point if someone does not respond to a friendly tip. “One can assume that the person is unteachable in the matter.” A further step would then be to call law enforcement officers and withdraw yourself.

Due to the corona pandemic, the mask requirement in Baden-Württemberg has been in effect since the end of April. At first most of them stuck to it. In the meantime, you keep meeting people without a mask, or the mask is pulled under your nose or hangs under your chin. The protective mask is correctly worn over the mouth and nose.
