Social bubble is heavily scaled back

A family may allow five more people into its social bubble for the next four weeks, not including children. That decision was made at the National Security Council.

That the social bubble of fifteen people was no longer tenable, became clear this weekend after the many criticisms and the very poor figures. The loose arrangement with fifteen people, who could also change week after week, made it very difficult to suppress the flare-up of the coronavirus.

Social contacts are therefore drastically reduced. A family will still be allowed to have contact with five other adults, children are not counted. And above all: that bubble must remain the same for the next four weeks, the editors learn. The Security Council therefore goes even further than the bubble of ten people for four weeks, which the province of Antwerp already announced this weekend.

In addition, the permitted events are also scaled back. It was originally planned to double the number of people at events – today 200 indoors and 400 outdoors – from August 1. It has become a halving, to 100 indoors and 200 outdoors.

The free public transport ticket, which is due to start on 17 August, has been postponed. Wearing a mouth mask is not mandatory, but anyone who comes outside must have one in their pocket.
