A source from within the Confederation of African Football (CAF) stated that the rules in force so far do not qualify the CAF champions to the next edition of the Champions League.
A source from within the African Union said in his statements to “Yallakora” in response to a questionnaire about the position of the next edition of the Champions League and the way to qualify for it: “Until now, the rules in force in the club tournaments do not qualify the Confederation title holder to the Champions League.”
He continued: “The African Champions League champion goes directly to the next edition of the tournament, regardless of his position in the local league, and the Confederation champion qualifies for the next edition of the tournament, and each country does not represent more than two teams in the same tournament.”
At the beginning of the current season 2019-2020 of the African Club Championships, the Club Competitions Committee studied the qualification of the Confederation champion and the runner-up to the next edition of the Champions League 2020-2021, but the decision has not yet been officially approved by KAF.
Pyramids’ qualification to the Confederation Final raised speculation about the possibility of participating in the Champions League next season or not.
