The new BMX competition season in Latvia was eagerly awaited. This was also reflected in the first stage of the eighth season of the “SMScredit.lv BMX Championship”. A record number of championship participants was reached on the BMX track of “Avotu” in Burtnieki district. A total of 368 participants from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Finland took part in 20 age and skill groups.
Due to the strong wind, the athletes of the “Pro Open” group also raced from the small starting hill. Kristens Kriegers, an athlete of “Mītavas kumeļi” / “AKSSC Valmiera”, demonstrated a great performance throughout the day. The student of coach Ivo Lakučs triumphed in all day trips. In the final, he left Helvi Babri (MŠA / “AKSSC Valmiera”) in second place.
Meanwhile, the third place was won by Edvards Emīls Liberts, the representative of “Mārupe” / “AKSSC Valmiera”. For women in this group, Vineta Pētersone (“Silva ziķeri” / “AKSSC Valmiera”) triumphed. Second place for Līva Lizete Glasere (“Tālava” / “VBSS”), but third for Lithuanian Vēja Bškaite.
Edgars Langmanis triumphed in the youth B15 – 16 group. The second place was taken by Hugo Ilvis Eihentāls from Jelgava, while Dāvis Jānis Elbrets climbed the third stage of the podium. In the M17 + competition, the first position was for homeowner Edvards Glasers, followed by Mārtiņš Zadraks from Marupe and Viesturs Morozs, representative of BMX Rīga.
