Smoke nuisance due to smoldering fire in Deurnese Peel

Villages in the vicinity of the Deurnese Peel are still affected by the smoke from the smoldering fire in the nature reserve. The fire has been under control since Thursday, but not yet completely out, reports 1Limburg.

Post-filling will take several weeks. Because of the north wind, smoke is drawing to the inhabited areas, the fire brigade tells the regional broadcaster. Public health would not be endangered.

According to the fire brigade, the fire in the Deurnese Peel was the largest wildfire in the Netherlands in 40 years. 800 of the 1000 hectares were burned.

Some of the residents in the area were evacuated. The last people were allowed back on Thursday.
