– Lee Won-jong, former president of the Blue House, who had assisted former President Kim Young-sam (YS) for 42 years, passed away on the 31st. 82 years old.
Lee, a former senior from Samcheok, Gangwon-do, graduated from Gyeongbok High School and Korea University. He participated in the April 19 student election in 1960 and helped the election of former Unification Democratic Party President Kim Myung-yoon, who ran for the New Democratic Party in 1973. He graduated from Korea University’s Department of Economics in 65 and entered the New Democratic Party in 72 while doing business. “I couldn’t stay still after seeing the October Restoration, so I jumped into the democratization movement,” he said in an interview with the JoongAng Ilbo in the past.
Since 1976, Gyeongbok High School junior, former lawmaker Kim Deok-ryong, who was in charge of YS’s secretary office, has served as a public affairs secretary for YS, and has been assisting YS at close range throughout the military regime. Although it was subject to political regulation in 80 years, it was lifted four years later.

The deceased, who ran for the 12th to 14th parliamentary elections but was unsuccessful, worked as a vice minister of the Ministry of Public Information after the election of YS in 1993, and served as the chief political officer of the Blue House until February 1997. Since then, he has served as the chairman of Woori Nuri, the chairman of Dong-Hyun Lee Seung-ho, the chairman of the Sunyang Association, visiting professors at Inha University and Myongji University, and a chair professor at Hanyang University.
He stayed by YS as a member of Sangdo Winter until 2015, when YS died. The last digit of the phone number was about ‘0003’, which changed YS’s name’Youngsam’ to four digits.
In an interview with JoongAng Ilbo during his lifetime, former chief Lee said, “When I went to work for the first time as the chief political officer of the Blue House, my room phone number was ‘0003.’” Recalled. It is said that after moving to his home in Hwagok-dong, Seoul in 1987, he changed the ending of his home phone number like this, and then opened this number when he first made a mobile phone.
The survivors are his wife, Bong-suk Lee, and the eldest daughter, Shin-won. Vinso is Room 2 at the funeral hall of Shinchon Severance Hospital, Seoul, and the origin is on February 3 at 8 am. Jangji is Pocheon Yeryewon in Gyeonggi Province.
