Smartphone and calculator: copy & paste in the real world

With the demo of the developer Cyrial Diagne, copying and pasting can be realized with the help of augmented reality between smartphone and computer. The works like this: The user photographs an object with the smartphone and then points the smartphone at the computer screen – exactly at the point where the cropped photo is to be inserted.

According to the website report The Verge the tool reverses the usual AR paradigm: instead of projecting digital images into the physical world, it brings the physical into the digital world.

At the moment the tool appears to be only a prototype, but it would fit in with Adobe’s offer, for example. Therefore, it would not be surprising if such functions soon appeared in iPhones and Android smartphones.

However, there are still some performance problems to be solved, said Diagne. It currently takes about 2.5 seconds to copy an object and four seconds to paste it.

The source code of the AR Cut & Paste demo was up Github released.
