Sleeping in a car with the AC on, 2 female students died of carbon monoxide poisoning

KUALA LUMPUR, KOMPAS.com – As many as two female students were killed and two other women were critically ill, after being poisoned by monoxide gas due to sleeping with AC light up in the car.

The incident took place at the Shell Samagagah PLUS gas station, Malaysia, on Thursday (17/9/2020).

Sharifah Fariesha Syed Fathi (21) and Ayuni Shazwanie Shabri (21) were found dead at the scene around 01.40am local time, and at Seberang Jaya Hospital (HSJ).

Meanwhile, 2 other women were treated at the Lumut and Kuala Lumpur hospitals.

Reported by Astro AwaniThe Head of the Police of Seberang Perai Tengah Shafee Abd Samad said the incident occurred when the four women stopped to rest at a gas station that night.

“CCTV footage showed the Honda Odyssey driven by the twins stopped and parked at a gas station at 8:30 p.m.,” he said. World of Buzz.

“The four of them got out of the car to buy food and returned to the car.”

Shafee continued, the incident was discovered after Ayuni Shazwanie’s father found their car at the scene.

Previously, the man who lived in Kedah was looking for his daughter who was not coming home, and the last time he sent a message to his mother was at 9:15 p.m.

“Ayuni’s father found a car at the gas station, and was surprised to find the car engine still running but they were unconscious,” explained Shafee.

“The victim’s father then contacted the medical staff and the case is classified as sudden death.”

The police chief explained that all the victims were on their way home after a vacation on Jerejak Island, Penang, Wednesday (16/9/2020) during the Malaysia Day holiday.

All of the victims were good friends and studied at the same college majoring in pharmacy, he said.

This case adds to the long list of people who died in the car as a result of falling asleep with the engine and Car AC light up.

Death can occur from poisoning carbon monoxide, because the same air is recycled in the car.

There is also the possibility that exhaust fumes enter the car and cause oxygen levels to drop dramatically.

Even worse, carbon monoxide is an odorless gas that people don’t even know they have inhaled.

Some people argue that opening the windows slightly prevents carbon monoxide from building up in the car, but on the website Drive Spark which is quoted World of Buzz calling it ineffective.
