Skopje destroys a cult Bulgarian restaurant ship worth 1.2m euros

The opposition VMRO-DPMNE condemned the destruction of the site, and many Sofia residents suspected a pre-election move a month before the local elections in RS Macedonia

Skopje has begun destroying one of the attractions of the northern Macedonian capital – a mock restaurant in the Vardar River, built by a Bulgarian and used until recently as a restaurant.

The gallery is one of three erected in 2016 under the megalomaniacal project “Skopje 2014” by the government of Nikola Gruevski, writes “24 hoursThe mayor of the Macedonian capital, Petre Shilegov, vowed to remove the three ships when he took office four years ago, but looked only at one built by a Bulgarian company.

“The first of the 3 galleys in the Vardar riverbed has started to go down in history !!! Skopje, a different story!” – This was written by the mayor of Skopje Petre Shilegov in his Facebook profile. He also published several photos showing what the inside of the dummy looks like and how workers disassemble and take out pieces.

The opposition VMRO-DPMNE condemned the destruction of the site, and many Sofia residents suspected this was a pre-election move (the local elections in RS Macedonia are on October 17).

The gallery is a private investment of a Bulgarian citizen and is managed by a company with Bulgarian capital, which has invested a total of 40m euros in RS Macedonia. 1.2m euros have been invested in the restaurant ship, according to manager Zarko Milenkovski, a Macedonian and Bulgarian citizen.

Months ago, Mayor Shilegov set about removing the ship, but it turned out that lawsuits were pending. First, the company was accused of not paying rent to the municipality, and then the mayor launched the version that the ships posed a danger to citizens. It could lead to flooding and overflow of the Vardar because it obstructed the outflow.
