Skirt for women no longer mandatory at Utrecht hockey club

The hockey club Utrechtse Studenten Hockey Club (USHC) no longer obliges female members to wear a skirt. Men are no longer forced to wear pants. Everyone can now choose for themselves.

It is the first action by a specially appointed inclusion panel at the club, which aims to ensure that all members feel at home. “The inclusion panel is intended to look for a way how we can make the club safe for everyone, including for transgenders or gender neutral people,” Willem Vos of USHC told RTV Utrecht.

For years, it was stated in the House Rules of USHC: “The club uniform for matches consists of shorts for men, and women wear a skirt”.

“We found out that this was still in our regulations, and we actually found that very strange and also a bit sexist in a way,” says Vos. “Of course that is no longer of this time. It should not be a threshold, what you want to wear, that should be your own choice.”

Now the rules state: “The club costume for all members is: white shirt with red collar and black trim, black pants or skirt and red stockings.”
