The 66-year-old appeared to be doing well after tearing a star on a piste in Lech. The man got up and drove on, but death caught up with him.
On the first steep section of the ski route, the man fell through no fault of his own and hit his chest on the slopes. According to his own information, he rammed his ski pole into his chest. However, the skier was able to stand up independently and continue the journey.
The group then wanted lunch together. The man complained of malaise and suddenly lost consciousness. He was resuscitated by a doctor who happened to be there.
The unconscious person was then intubated by the team of the alarmed emergency helicopter C8 and flown to Feldkirch Regional Hospital. There the 66-year-old succumbed to his internal injuries.
