Next Friday the FIS will decide whether the World Cup final (March 18-22) will be held in Cortina (It). One thing is certain: The restrictions – among other things, no spectators would be admitted – would be great. However, the fear that drivers and caregivers could become infected with the corona virus is even greater. Many therefore assume that the FIS will be canceled. But who knows, maybe someone else will step in for Cortina?

In fact, there are positive signals from Norway and Sweden. Because Scandinavia is much less affected by the virus, this solution would be less risky. The speed competitions would then be held in Kvitfjell (No) and the technology competitions in Are (Sd). Ideal: Since World Cup races will be held in both ski destinations in the next few days, the infrastructure would not have to be built up first.

Swedish Alpine Director Tommy Eliasson Winter signals to svt.se that he is ready: “We have not yet been asked by the FIS, but if this is the case, we are ready to hold the races when the financial agreements have been clarified.” He is in constant exchange with the Norwegian Ski Association.

Why are there no women’s races?
Meanwhile, many a ski fan is probably wondering why women don’t ski at the weekend. A giant slalom and a slalom were originally planned for Ofterschwang (De). But spring has long since risen to just under 900 meters above sea level in Bavaria. The races were therefore canceled a good week ago.

A replacement location could not be found. Swiss Ski was discussing the option of a takeover with Crans-Montana, Lenzerheide and St. Moritz. However, all options due to the corona virus were dropped – the financial risk alone would be too great.
