Six arrests after dating robberies via dating app | Inland

The six arrests were made after three different incidents. For example, a 19-year-old Utrecht was arrested on October 22 for threatening, extorting and robbing a 48-year-old victim at an appointment via a dating app. Last Wednesday, four teenagers aged 16, 17, 18 and 19 from Utrecht and the surrounding area were arrested for robbing a 30-year-old victim during a date.

An 18-year-old woman from Utrecht was arrested on Saturday because she had robbed a 55-year-old victim at their appointment earlier that day.

Anonymity

According to the police, several dating apps are being abused, but the risk is greatest with dating apps that allow people to remain anonymous. The police give a few tips for using the apps, such as asking for current photos and calling to meet. It is also smart to meet in sight of other people and not at home, in a deserted place or in the dark, according to the police.
