He was missing for two days in January, after which his body was found lifeless in Wicklow. On January 8, Sinead announced the news: “My beautiful son, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor, the light in my life, has decided to end his daily struggle on Earth. He is now with God. Hopefully he rests in peace and no one follows his example. My treasure. I love you so much.” The 17-year-old boy was buried a week later. Reportedly, only Sinead and his father, musician Donal Lunny, attended the funeral, as that was his dying wish. His parents, Sinead and Donal, separated shortly after he was born.

Sinead was herself hospitalized after she tweeted that she would follow in her son’s footsteps. “I’m going to follow my son. There is no point in living without him,” the Irish singer wrote with great sadness. “He was the only reason I was alive and now he’s dead.” Not long after, she reassured her fans that she was okay and didn’t mean it that way. She wrote in a tweet: “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that. say… Sorry for worrying everyone. I’m lost without my child and I hate myself. The hospital is going to help me.”
