Simulated Core i5-12400 in test against R5 5600X, can we look forward to it?

The Core i5-12400 is not coming to market until next year, but if we know their specifications, it is not difficult to simulate one using the already available Core i5-12600K. All you have to do is turn off the efficient cores, set the appropriate cycles of the remaining six powerful cores (2.5 to 4.4 GHz with a 4GHz turbo of all cores) and finally select the appropriate consumption limits (65W PL1 and 117W MTP (PL2)). Somewhere we could also meet the setting PL2 = PL1 = 117 W, but according to the author of the test Igor Wallosska nor did it affect the results. –

On the MSI MAG Z690 Edge board with DDR4-3733 memories, a processor was tested, which should be very close to the real Core i5-12400 as a result, and it is difficult to find a reason why it should not be completely adequate in terms of performance. The only thing that could be seen is that the Core i5-12400 already has another chip that doesn’t even contain efficient cores, and in fact this processor should include its full version with six powerful cores and an iGPU (unless it’s the F model). This could have a slight effect on cooling and temperatures, given that it will be a smaller chip, ie heat concentrated on a smaller area. But there’s also a heatspreader.

However, only game tests in 720p, 1080p and 1440p resolutions were performed, where applicable remarkablythat Core loses a bit in the lower resolution, in the middle it is the same as Ryzen and in the higher it leads on the contrary. But overall, the differences are negligible, who will decide whether the processor will provide 140 or 142 FPS? But this can be extended to other processors, in which case we don’t even have to deal with whether we have Zen 3, Alder Lake, or old Comet Lake.-

Wallossek (so far) has not performed other tests with his simulated Core i5-12400, but we still have the consumption and it is also interesting. It shows that Core can be significantly more effective than Ryzen in games. After all, we’ve looked at the efficiency of the Alder Lake-S on several occasions, and it turned out that with a moderate power supply, these can be processors with a very decent power-to-power ratio. This is also confirmed by tests at Igor’s Labwhere the simulated Core i5-12400 is significantly better than anything else in the test (other Alder Lake-S, Rocket Lake-S or Ryzen 5000). And when you add the expected low price of the Core i5-12400 processor, which could cost about half as much as the Ryzen 5 5600X, we have an interesting offer.
