Simón, concerned about the increase in covid infections in Catalonia and Madrid

The director of the Center for the Coordination of Health Alerts and Emergencies of the Ministry of Health Fernando Simon has alerted this Thursday of “worrying signs of increase of the contagions in some autonomous communities ”. Though has not cited any in particular, the 14-day incidence has started to rise from an already high level in Madrid (225 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), Basque Country (177) and Catalonia (172). It has also increased, albeit from lower levels, in Navarra (138), Canary Islands (129), Cantabria (78), Estremadura (72) and Baleares (43).

The result is that the Spanish average has risen for the first time since the peak of the third wave was reached on January 27, although it has done it very slightly, in only one digit – from 127 to 128 cases.

This “inflection” worries the technical spokesman of the Government in the pandemic not only because of the upcoming holidays, but also because of the European environment. France has reported 38,000 cases, Italy 22,400 and Germany 17,500. They are many more than the 6,215 notified in Spain, but this figure is the highest so far this week.

Faced with this concern, Minister of Health, Carolina Darias, has called for strict compliance with the restrictions established in the Easter plan and the San José bridge.
