Global streaming giant, Spotify, announced on July 06, 2022 that Nigerian singer-songwriter, Simi, has been selected as an ambassador for the music program “Spotify EQUAL Africa” for the month of July 2022. This announcement follows the release of his latest album, “TBH (To Be Honest)” in June 2022.
Simi joins other Nigerian artists, Tiwa Savage, Ayra Starr, Asa and FAVE to be part of ‘EQUAL Africa’, which aims to spotlight and amplify the voices of talented African female artists who are shining on the music scene . She also becomes the second African artist after Tiwa Savage to be named an “EQUAL Global” and “EQUAL Africa” artist.
Spotify welcomes Simi to the “EQUAL” program, which aims to foster gender equality and provide a platform to celebrate influential female artists. She joins a list of talented African women who are pushing culture forward and breaking down barriers in the music industry.
“We’re proud to welcome Simi to the ‘EQUAL’ program and we’re excited to see where his talent continues to take him ever stronger,” said Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s head of music for the ‘Sub-Saharan Africa.
The “EQUAL” program covers seven categories, including the “EQUAL” artists of the month and the local “EQUAL” playlists. As the latest artist to join the “EQUAL Africa” and “Global Music” programs, Simi will feature on the “EQUAL Africa” and “EQUAL Global” playlists.
