The new road traffic regulations have resulted in more driving bans in cities in Lower Saxony. The city of Hanover expects that in May, compared to the previous year, more than twice as many procedures were initiated that would result in a driving ban. This is due to changes in the road traffic regulations that came into force in May. Since then, there has been a one-month ban on driving if you drive 21 kilometers per hour too fast in urban areas or 26 kilometers per hour out of town.

The new catalog of fines is effective, said a spokesman for the City of Oldenburg in a dpa survey. According to him, there might be 94 driving violations in May in 4716 speed violations in May. In May 2019, there was a single ban on 3795 speed violations. According to the spokesman, one possibility for the increase in the number of violations by almost 1,000 could be to change the location of the speed cameras – in any case, the number of checks had not increased. Less crowded streets during the Corona pandemic may also have played a role. In April 2020 there were six driving bans (with 3475 violations) and in the same month of the previous year 11 driving bans (with 4139 violations).
