Showmen’s Association to Continue Tradition of Kö-Hustle and Bustle in Düsseldorf Carnival

Dusseldorf. The traditional Kö-hustle and bustle in Düsseldorf can still take place next Carnival Sunday. A successor to the CC was found on Friday.

After the Düsseldorf Carneval Committee (CC) announced on Wednesday evening that it would no longer be holding the traditional Kö-hustle and bustle on the next carnival Sunday, street carnival will now be able to be celebrated on Düsseldorf’s luxury mile on February 11, 2024.

As the city announced on Friday, the Düsseldorf showmen’s association will take over the direction and organization of the popular Kö-hustle and bustle. “When we, the showmen, heard about the end of the Kö-hustle and bustle, we immediately felt it was our duty to continue this tradition. The Showmen’s Association organized the Kö-Driving over 30 years ago, and we would like to do it again,” explained showman boss Oliver Wilmering.

Elimination of the Kö-hustle and bustle is “not an option” for the city of Düsseldorf

Together with the city of Düsseldorf and the CC, the showmen’s association sees itself as responsible for ensuring that the upcoming Tulip Sunday on the Kö can once again be said: “Düsseldorf Helau,” continued Wilmering. According to the city, the showmen will now work out the concrete concept for the Kö-Driving 2024 in consultation with the state capital.

There was no question for Mayor Stephan Keller (CDU) that there had to be an alternative solution to save the Kö-hustle and bustle after the decision of the Düsseldorf Carnival Committee: “The elimination of the traditional Kö-hustle and bustle without replacement is not an option for us.”

According to his own statements, Mayor Keller himself brought the Showmen’s Association into play to organize the traditional event for all Düsseldorf Jecken: “It was and is a matter close to our hearts that this popular event also takes place in the current session. I would like to thank the showmen around Oliver Wilmering who followed my suggestion and are now taking over the organization.”

Stephan Keller now hopes that the Düsseldorf Carnival Committee will continue to be part of the Kö hustle and bustle: “I would be happy if the CC also became part of this initiative.”
