Laporta returned to the helm in March of this year, having previously held the position at Barcelona between 2003 and 2010. He was expected to bring a breath of fresh air to the Catalan club, which now seems to be coming.
“I’m talking about the end of a cycle and some necessary innovations, that’s because I’m convinced we should do that,” says Laporta.
Specifically, he did not comment on anything, although Laporta already indicated that he is dissatisfied with the performance of the main force, which is led by trainer Ronald Koeman.
“We won the Copa del Rey and we are proud of that, but we were eliminated from the Champions League very early and in the battle for the national title, in my opinion, in an incomprehensible way.
“I’ve always said that I will evaluate the team at the end of the season, in terms of how they played and what the results were. And we will announce that next week.”
Laporta’s comments do not bode well for Koeman and his staff. Barcelona cannot finish higher than third place in La Liga. Koeman’s team only scored 5 points from the last five league matches.
After Saturday’s closing game at last-ditch SD Eibar, there will be more clarity about the future of Koeman and a number of important players, including the dearly paid Lionel Messi.
