Shopee Liga 1 Unclear, Indonesian Players Targeted by ASEAN Clubs

Jakarta

Advanced Shopee Liga 1 2020 never got certainty because they did not get the police’s permission. Now there is news that Indonesian players are in demand by foreign clubs.

The mainstay players of the Indonesian national team who competed in Shopee Liga 1 2020 such as Rezaldi Hehanussa, Osvaldo Haay, Evan Dimas, Hansama Yama, to Todd Rivaldo Ferre, reportedly attracted by clubs from Malaysia to Thailand. Media Malaysia, Berita Harian, said that Evan Dimas was in demand by Terengganu FC.

Malaysian clubs are interested in proposing Indonesian players because of the imposition of ASEAN player quotas. This ASEAN player quota rule has indeed been in effect in the Malaysia Super League since the 2018 season.

Special Evan Dimas, Terengganu seems to have started to withdraw due to the high contract price of the Persija Jakarta player. Evan Dimas is known as a local player with a large contract value.

“We are targeting players from ASEAN because it is necessary to fill the player quota set by the Malaysian Football Federation (FAM),” said Terengganu COO Mohd Sabri Abas, as quoted by Berita Harian.

“But because the price offered by the player (Evan Dimas) was beyond his ability, we did not take the player,” he added.

While Hansama Yama is associated with Pahang, Perak FA, Petaling Jaya City, and Sabah FA. The name of the last club, Sabah, happened to be coached by Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto.

On the other hand, the interest from Pahang to Hansamu Yama is not something that is surprising. Pahang happened to have contracted Saddil Ramdani in the Malaysian Super League for the 2019 season.

Meanwhile, Thai clubs interested in Indonesian players are Lampang FC. The club, which plays in the second caste, was linked with Todd Rivaldo Ferre.

The news that foreign clubs are interested in Indonesian players has reached the ears of the General Chairman, PSSI Mochamad Iriawan. He fully supports Indonesian players for a career abroad.

“I am proud if there are our players who play outside. I encourage our players to be like Japanese or Korean players who are outside,” Iriawan told reporters recently.
