A few months ago, director Felix van Groeningen (‘Beautiful Boy’, ‘The Broken Circle Breakdown’) and his girlfriend, actress Charlotte Vandermeersch, announced that they would film the international bestseller ‘De Acht Bergen’ together. That book, by Italian author Paolo Cognetti, has been translated into no fewer than thirty languages and tells the story of Pietro and Bruno, a city boy and a mountain boy who become friends when they are 11 years old. An intense but heartbreaking friendship that has been the only constant in their lives for 30 years.

The shooting of that new film has now started in the Alps. “To bring this deeply human, epic story to life, we dig deeper and climb higher. Higher than any of us have been before,” the directors said in a joint statement. “We are grateful and honored that Italy’s most brilliant actors will accompany us on this journey.” Indeed, the cast of ‘Le otto montage’ is mainly made up of Italians, including Luca Marinelli (‘The Old Guard’), Alessandro Borghi (‘ Devils’), Filippo Timi (‘Vincere’) and Elena Lietti (‘Anna’) will star.
