Heartwarming, Late Jason Dupasquier’s Number 50 Lost Forever in Moto3

mobilinanews (Germany) – There will be a sad ceremony on the sidelines of the German GP at the Sachsenring Circuit this weekend. On Friday (18-6-2021) afternoon in the press room, a special ceremony was held to commemorate the 19-year-old Swiss teenager, Jason Dupasquier, who died in the last Italian GP.

Continuing the tradition that has been going on at the grand prix event, this special ceremony is the cessation of the use of the start number 50 in the MotoGP event for good. In other words no one else can use that number on his motorbike.

This is a form of respect for the late Dupasquier who died tragically in a consecutive collision during qualifying for the Italian GP at Mugello.

This tradition has taken place several times in all grand prix events. Previous recipients were the late Luis Salom (Moto3), Shoya Tomizawa (Moto2), Marco Simoncelli and Daijoro Katoh (MotoGP). They all also lost their lives in accidents on the track.

Although with a different case, Nicky Hayden’s start number 69 has also been retired. The 2006 MotGP world champion died when he was hit by a car while cycling on the highway.

There are also two numbers that are retired even though the drivers are still alive, with the same goal as a tribute. The two are Kevin Schwanzt’s #34 (USA) and Loris Capirossi’s #65 (Italy). It could be that Valentino Rossi’s legendary #46 will also retire along with the retirement of The Doctor later. Currently he is still racing at the age of 42 years.

Dupasquier himself has only two seasons in Moto3. When he died he was already in the top 15 of the standings with a total of 27 points. He was the son of Phillippe Dupasquier, the Swiss national kroses.

It’s no wonder that little Dupasquier is familiar with motocross and supermoto and has a shiny reputation at the Swiss national championship. He only switched to road racing in 2016 via the Red Bull Rookies route, Europe’s most potential event as a supplier of drivers in Moto3.

In 5 rounds of Moto3 2021, he always finished with points and brought home points. His best finish was P7 at the Spanish GP.

Unfortunately, his potential stalled in the 6th round, in a heartbreaking fashion. Once again, Ride In Peace Jason! (rnp)
