Shirma Rouse responds to a remarkable column in Nieuwe Revu

Through a video on Instagram, Shirma lets you know that she has been inundated with love in recent days. “I got so much love. Sweet messages from everyone. I feel loved.” She thanks everyone for all the responses she’s had.

Yet she is not taken aback by the column. “What you need to know: I can’t be beat.” The singer says she has been dealing with commentary all her life. “For him there are a lot of people who have tried that, but I don’t have time for that.” Actually she did not want to go into the commotion, but because she has had so many reactions, she wants to let you know that she is doing well. “Sincerely: I’m good.”

The column was mainly about the weight of Shirma, who has recently lost 50 kilos. “Even though I weigh fifty kilos heavier than I am now, I am still hot at all times.”

Herman Brusselmans is known for his satirical writing, but many people think that he misses the point with his piece. Among other things, it can be read: ‘The obesity in her jaw made it difficult for her to speak, but then she could sing,’ he continues. “She should preferably act as a backing vocalist, because if she were in the front, you wouldn’t be able to see the rest of the orchestra (…) No, she’s not a slim girl.”

Jim Bakkum also stands up for the singer and calls the column beneath contempt. Shirma is strong. Very strong. But there are so many people who are less strong. And then one comment, one word and in this case one column can be fatal. Please dear people, let us be the example for new generations, ‘he writes on Instagram.

Thick or thin: what do some people get involved in anyway? Marieke Elsinga was recently asked to be the face for a weight loss brand and that really touched her. You can see it in the video below.
