A new electric motor with a lot more torque and efficient use of energy. That’s the new Shimano EP8 for mountain bikes.

From bicycle repairer to e-bike specialist. It can turn quite a bit in a number of years. The well-known Japanese builder of bicycle parts has a new electric motor for e-mountain bikes suggested. The Shimano EP8 sets the bar a lot higher, the manufacturer claims.
Shimano EP8
The EP8 is an electric motor unit that sits at the bottom center, just like Bosch. According to Shimano itself, there is up to 85Nm of torque behind the new e-bike motor. In addition, the manufacturer has also managed to reduce the weight and size of the engine. The EP8 now weighs about 2.6 kilos.
Especially in Trail and Boost mode, the power of the new EP8 engine would come to the fore. The company is thus also in direct competition with the most powerful Bosch motors, which are also located in the bottom center. For professional riders it is also possible to adjust your torque between 20 and 85 Nm in the accompanying mobile app.
Integration
Furthermore, the manufacturer has ensured that the new e-bike motor integrates better with the latest series of batteries and the EP8 also makes a lot less noise. This makes you almost forget that you are on an electric mountain bike.
To optimize its motor, the company has used algorithms that allow the motor to add power at the right moment on a slope. Not too much but not too little either. The right combination also ensures that the EP8 requires less energy from the battery. Two birds with one stone.
