Installed on the Place du Mail, in the district of Clos, in Chartres, the equipment is unmissable. Inside, darkness. Only a few blue LEDs illuminate the red circular carpet on which around twenty children practice circus practice. They integrate, until June 5, the circus school.
“This project was launched by the Henri-IV school group,” begins Céline Prier, the director of the nursery school. “I contacted the Bostok circus at the beginning of the year so that it could come and settle in the neighborhood and give circus lessons to fourteen elementary school classes, eight kindergarten classes and all -little ones at Les Lutins crèche. »
10 years is something to celebrate
Since May 1, the Clos district has been living at the time of the circus school. “Each class takes part in a week of initiation to the art of the circus. In the mornings, two groups of kindergarten train, in the afternoon, two groups of primary, so that everyone benefits,” says Céline Prier.

The Bostok circus has been run by the Dumas family for five generations. Ludovic, Patricia, Brayan, Dany and his wife Ilana, teach children to stand straight on a trapeze, to find their balance on a ball, to climb on the shoulders of their circus teacher or to become apprentice tightrope walkers .

“We are used to working with schools. We really like having this contact with children to give them the keys, the basics of our profession. And then, when we see them impatient, smiles on their lips, before trying a new acrobatic trick, it’s exceptional. It is for these moments that we wanted to be a circus school, in addition to our professional performances” marvels Ilana, the specialist in aerial acts.
The arrival of the Bostok circus is a gift from the Henri-IV school group to the students and their families. On September 3, 2020, the school celebrated its 10th anniversary. “We wanted to mark the occasion. But with health restrictions and between two confinements, we couldn’t. In 2021, it was still too fair. This year, here is our gift”, proudly explains the director of the establishment.

The circus has a multidisciplinary scope: “It brings together the notions of culture, art and sport. The pupils of the Henri-IV school group had already heard about it in class: “Through the books, they discovered this universe which, thanks to this project, becomes concrete for them. It’s an activity that appeals to young and old alike, it’s exactly what we were looking for. »
The goal of the Bostok circus is to bring the whole neighborhood together around the same event and to create links. “In addition to giving the children a good time, we wanted to bring the whole Clos district to life, to highlight it and show that great things are happening here too,” enthuses Céline. Create links between residents and “bring the neighborhood to life”
The Henri-IV school group intends to reach all those who make the life of this district. That is to say its inhabitants. “That’s why, on Tuesdays, all residents of the neighborhood are invited to the marquee to see a representation of the Dumas family. On Friday evening, they can see that of the children of the school. »
From the start, Céline Prier felt that the bet was won: “From May 1, when the Bostok circus set up its tent in the square, families came out to see what was going on. They were delighted. »
The various activities around the circus were supported by the citizen council and were fully funded, to the tune of €22,000, by the Chartres agglomeration and the State, because the Henri-IV school group is located in an education zone. priority (Zep).
Céline Prier concludes: “It’s a very promising project and a great adventure. Children and residents of Les Clos will keep fond memories of it. »
