Shanghai Records Hottest May Day in 100 Years Amid Global Warming Concerns

Shanghai: The city of Shanghai in China is burning. “The hottest May day in the last 100 years was recorded on Monday. At 1:09 p.m., the temperature at Sujiahui Station reached 36.1 degrees Celsius (97 degrees Fahrenheit), breaking the 100-year-old record for the highest temperature in May,” said a note posted on the Weibo account.

Scientists say global warming is making extreme weather worse. A recent report by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change warns that “each increase in global warming will intensify multiple hazards.” In the afternoon, the temperature at a metro station in central Shanghai rose to 36.7 degrees Celsius, the weather service of the eastern Chinese city said.
