SFR: arbitrary price increase from € 10 / month to € 13 for RED Boxes

Recently aligned by the UFC-Que Choisir on hidden increases, SFR celebrates the change of year by increasing the bill for RED Box subscribers by 30% to € 10 (now € 13). The only solution not to be impacted, unsubscribe.

Bad news for RED subscribers to the very high speed Box offer billed at € 10 per month. From next month, this package will see its price increase to 13 €. An increase that the subsidiary low cost SFR seeks to pass by insisting on rates which, too, are enhanced. Thus, from a maximum of 100 Mb / s in downloads, the offer increases to 1 Gb / s (50 to 200 Mb / s in uploads).

Problem, RED has communicated a lot about the sustainability of its “lifetime” offers. However, the general conditions of sale of this package do indeed provide that a price increase may be applied by the operator. Only obligation: the customer must be notified at least one month before. A situation which, obviously, is not without generating a certain discontent among the subscribers concerned, clearly visible on social networks, and which the community managers of SFR have great difficulty in appeasing.

Moreover, note that this RED Box offer at 10 € per month is non-binding. Customers who do not want to pay € 13 per month can therefore opt out at no cost – knowing that it is not possible to refuse the increase. However, it should be noted that the RED by SFR offers currently sold on fixed lines are less advantageous, invoiced 22 € per month in fiber and 15 € per month in ADSL.

Let us conclude by pointing out that, unfortunately, SFR is not the only operator to seek to impose price increases in exchange for new options or modified subscription conditions. It is a practice that has once again denounced the UFC-Que Choisir, of which SFR is nevertheless considered the champion.
