Sexual abuse: Senegal has an online portal to report pedophiles and obsessed …

Senegal now has a portal on which images and videos of child sexual abuse can be reported. This portal was set up thanks to a collaboration between the Child Protection Support Unit (Cape) and the Internet watch foundation (Iwf).

When faced with images and videos of child sexual abuse on the net, what should you do? In collaboration with the Internet watch foundation (Iwf), a British charity, the Child Protection Support Unit (Cape) has launched an online portal to report these images.

“From June 24, 2020, the citizens of Senegal have a secure and anonymous mechanism to report images and videos of child sexual abuse they may come across on the internet.”

Quoted in a press release from these two structures, Ramatoulaye Ndao Diouf, Cape Coordinator, welcomes the partnership. “It will better protect children exposed to the dangers of online sexual exploitation,” she explains.

The photos and videos to be reported will then be analyzed and removed by Iwf experts in the United Kingdom. “The new online portal, which can be used in French and Wolof, is available here: https://report.iwf.org.uk/sn.
It is an important step towards a safer internet for all and it offers a safe and anonymous solution to report this kind of material if someone accidentally comes across it while on the internet, “the statement said.

“Despite strict laws criminalizing child sexual abuse, Senegal did not have a mechanism for citizens to report imagery of child sexual abuse online and then remove it from the internet. This new cooperation between the Cape and Iwf fills this gap ”, specifies Jenny Thornton, the manager of international development at Iwf.

The portal was designed thanks to the grant offered by the Global fund to end violence against children. It is the 38th Iwf reporting portal, the 17th to be set up in Africa.
