Yesterday and today, ten barrels washed up on the Wadden Islands. Some barrels found on the beaches of Terschelling and Ameland were leaky.
The first barrels were found on Saturday afternoon, a spokesperson for the Fryslân Security Region told NU.nl.
It is not yet known what exactly is in the barrels. “It looks like some kind of oil,” says the spokesman. It is also still unclear where the washed-up barrels come from.
The fire brigade has cleaned up the barrels on Ameland and Terschelling and stored them safely.
The security services call for notification of new barrels that are found. It is also advised to stay away from it, because it is not clear what is in it.
